Universities: source of inspiration for business, culture and society

The 15 state universities in Saxony are places of research, artistic practice, teaching and knowledge and technology transfer. Performance and ingenuity count. Diversity and inclusion are lived. Across disciplines, age, gender or origin, new things are created together – projects, start-ups, innovation. It is the ideas of many that contribute to successfully overcoming challenges.

Saxon universities play in the top league when it comes to research. Thanks to the University of Excellence TU Dresden, the Free State of Saxony is visible from afar. Top scientific achievements are achieved in a wide variety of structures at Saxon universities and colleges of applied sciences. Top-level research in Saxony should continue to be strengthened in the future - the universities will face future competitions.

In order for universities to be able to fulfill their tasks now and in the future, they need freedom. Saxon university policy is geared towards this. Good equipment and a reliable legal framework are the basis for universities to continue to develop positively. It is therefore determined for Saxony to strengthen university autonomy and to position universities securely for the future. After an intensive legislative process, the Saxon state parliament passed the new higher education law on May 31, 2023. After the last major amendment in 2012, the Higher Education Act is being fundamentally renewed and a central science policy project of the coalition agreement is being implemented.
